Humans and beastkins are at war. The humans call them demons, and the war is the Demon War. There are half-beastkins among both the humans and beastkins. They are shunned among the humans and often driven to live in the forest where the beastkins live. This story revolves around a human, a half-elf, three half-beastkins, and a magical fox. The story also follows twin boys who are half-beastkins. Their storyline intersects with the main characters later in the first book.

There’s a prophecy about the main characters Lorcan, Tory, Deni, Sheem, and Nephtys. It says that Deni will fall in the end. They know who it’s about because it lists two positive and two negative attributes about each character, as well as their names. Plus, Echo knows who the prophecy is about due to Echo’s magical nature.

The Pendant of Corruption (name subject to change) is the true main antagonist of the trilogy. It was constructed centuries ago and has spent its time absorbing Corrupted magic through its users. When it was made, a king touched it and had a vision of its future. That’s where the prophecy comes from. It’s also a framing device for the novels.

Characters

Lorcan Xue (male) - main POV character. He’s a half-dogkin, which means he’s a half-demon in Sheem’s eyes. He has water/ice magic. His last name comes from his mother, who died in childbirth with Tory.

Hasheem “Sheem” Itto (male) - will be the main POV of book 2. He’s a human and very prejudiced against beastkins, calling them demons. His mother died at the start of the war, and his father is a captain in the human army. Sheem is a lieutenant and holds some sway.

Deni Mbassi (male) - will be the main POV of book 3. He’s a half-lynxkin. He was a prisoner of the beastkins until he was ten when he managed to run away. He had to leave his adoptive parents when the villagers discovered he was half-lynxkin.

Nephtys Lenio (female) - half-nymph air/wind magic user. She doesn’t know she can use magic until push comes to shove. Her mother (the nymph) never taught her magic, thinking that she didn’t have any. Nephtys had a younger sister who died at the start of the war.

Tory Xue (female) - Lorcan’s younger sister. Lorcan is very protective of her. She has water/ice magic, but focuses on healing. She kept her healing a secret from Lorcan.

Echo the Magical Fox (no gender) - mentor character. A magical fox that was sent by an all-knowing person to help gather the team. Echo has been a part of the world for centuries.

Lady Fabia (Baratan) Arzen (female) - main antagonist of the first book. She’s an elf who married into the beastkin clan and took over. She’s extremely magical and can use any magic attribute.

Tezneg (male) - Lorcan and Tory’s father. He’s a full dogkin and works for Lady Fabia. He’s her right-hand-man.

Bidek (male) - a side plot character. He and his brother are half-snakekins who live among the beastkins. He is afraid of his father, but more afraid of Lady Fabia.

Kezek (male) - Bidek’s brother. He’s timid but hopeful.

Marek (male) - Bidek and Kezek’s father. He’s a full snakekin and works for Lady Fabia. He’s abusive to his wife and sons.

Nencia (female) - Bidek and Kezek’s human mother. She was taken by Marek to live in the beastkin village.
